Materna increases its group turnover by 9 percent
IT service provider maintains stable growth

Materna Group has ended the 2015 fiscal year with a sales growth of nine percent. The group turnover rose to 210 million euros after 192 million euros in 2014. Trends like the digital transformation and the inclusion of cloud solutions in the existing standard IT have also boosted the business of Materna. Materna generated more than a quarter of the turnover with public sector customers. The subsidiary company cbs in Heidelberg that is specialized in SAP consulting delivered a successful business performance by contributing around 25 percent to the group sales.
The Executive Management, led by CEO Helmut Binder and CFO Ralph Hartwig, is very satisfied with the financial year 2015. Materna had its portfolio completely restructured as of January 1, 2015, in order to better respond to market and customer requirements. „Our current portfolio structure helps us to better serve the current market trends, such as Cloud, digitization and Industry 4.0. These issues will continue to serve as growth drivers“, explains CEO Helmut Binder.
In 2015, Materna acquired Infora GmbH, which specializes in government customers consultancies, and the Norwegian company DSG BagDrop AS that develops hardware and software solutions for baggage handling at airports and for airlines.
Cloud and Industry 4.0
Cloud solutions are driving fundamental changes in IT organizations. In this respect, the IT automation plays a decisive role. This applies to enterprise and government customers of Materna alike. In recent months, Materna has even more tailored offerings for IT organizations to these changes. The offer includes consulting packages for data center transformation solutions with the aim of managing various cloud blocks and components as well as security consulting packages.
In addition, Materna continues to strongly focus on the Enterprise Service Management, the central management solution for managing an IT organization. Here, the focus is increasingly on end-to-end services, which include both IT and non-IT components. With the progress of Industry 4.0 and Internet of Things, the IT increasingly impacts more and more areas of the economy, resulting in high demand for end-to-end services.
Cloud solutions – whether as a hybrid cloud, or from one’s own data center – have now also reached the government authorities. These authorities need standard platforms that are equipped with interdepartmental basic services, uniformly used by all authorities and operated inexpensively. Basic services include the electronic record, payment and form systems as well as content management systems. In the provision of basic services and cloud services for government customers, Materna views itself as being well aligned. Already today, Materna is one of the largest German providers of websites for the federal authorities. The topics relating to collaboration and Intranet represent other essential portfolio elements for customers in the administration departments.
The digital transformation is an ongoing process
The past financial year has shown that companies are aware of the need to deal with the digital transformation. The demand for holistic e-business and communication concepts has increased. This means that more and more companies are pursuing the digitization of their business model as a strategic objective and are adapting their processes in, e.g. sales, marketing and human resources. Companies no longer consider their online projects individually. They however connect the areas of e-commerce, product information management (PIM), customer relationship management (CRM), content management, big data and analytics as a holistic communication medium for customers across all touch-points. Here, Materna is positioned as a consulting and implementation partner for projects of digital transformation. Thus, it has managed to attract many new customers in recent months.
